Field Work in the Works
(Note about the picture - it's taken from photobucket.com - not mine. There was a green combine in our field.)
We finished with the corn harvest on Sunday, Oct. 14th. Jeff finished combining somewhere around noon. Ronny and I emptied the wet holding bin somewhere around 9 p.m. Ronny had mentioned that he wanted me to D.M.I. some of the fields in the morning. Since it was late, I asked him if he needed my help with any of the other things for finishing up. I suspected that the remaining work was mostly a waiting game - waiting for the dryer to finish. Since it was dark out, I figured most of the clean-up and putting things away could wait for another day. Since Ronny didn't need my help, I opted to go to the house and get ready for bed.
Monday morning came with rain. Ronny had said he'd be here around 8 a.m. and that would be when he'd need my help with the fall tillage. But, Ronny didn't show. I suspected (and still do suspect) that he didn't show because of the rain. The tillage equipment most likely won't do the job it's intended to do because the cornstalks won't cut up due to the high moisture content. Today is Tuesday and it's still raining - misting. No tillage will be done today either. (Ronny will plow some of the ground. And the tractor will just spin on top with as much rain as we've gotten.)
I understand the weather pattern of rain is to be the same for much of the week. Thus, I believe no tillage will be done for quite some time. Drying time will be a must when the rain does subside.
