Another beautiful Day
The weather is beautiful today. As was yesterday. We’ve had a pretty crummy October, as far as the weather goes. Lots of rain and much cooler than normal. But, this week we start with temps in the upper 40’s. Right now (at 1:30 p.m.) the temp is almost 55 degrees. Yesterday there was very little wind, unlike today.
I was able to get some outdoor work done yesterday. I got the dead flowers out of the flower bed. Plus, I dug the gladiola, cannas, and calla lily bulbs out of the flower bed. Plus, I got the chicken manure filled wood chips moved to the flower bed. Maybe my flower bed will finally become more fertile and less compacted with this addition. I also got the garden hoses rolled up and put away. I also got D&A’s charcoal grill put away. I just have a couple more things to do to be winterized.
Russ even did got his winterizing done as of last weekend – at least most of it. He winterized the travel trailer. The plumbing is drained and ready for winter.
Today is much warmer than yesterday. But, with the strong wind, I’m not all that interested in doing much outside. I suppose I’ll go out and do something. But, since I don’t have anything pressing, I don’t suppose I do much out there.
I will have to go out to the hen house again though. The young hens have been generous. I average 3-4 eggs a day. Which isn’t very many, since I have 22 hens. (It was 23 hens, but one was lost to a predator, probably a fox yesterday.) But, I was surprised I got any eggs at all this year since they were just chicks 3 months ago. Also, since the days are getting shorter, usually chickens cease to lay. But I have a light on a timer so that they get a bit more light. I have heard they need 12 hours of light to continue laying. I must be doing something right.
So, with the temps being warmer this week, I shall try to enjoy the outdoors a bit more than I have for much of this month.
