Nicholas' Baptism (March 3, 2007)

March 3rd was a wonderful day, despite the aftermaths of a snowstorm. The roads were poor for travel on the state and county roads. (I was told the interstate was wet, but clear.)
Despite the poor road conditions, Russ, Corinne and I were able to make the trip to Owatonna where Nicholas' baptism was held.

After Russ had worked and I had run errands all morning, we left home around 1:30 or so to pick up Corinne, then continued to Owatonna. We arrived approximately 4:30 at Trinity Lutheran Church, where the event took place. We had made better time than expected. This time even included stopping breifly for a roll-over accident that we witnessed upon route. (Three girls that were in the vehicle must have all been wearing their seatbelts because they all crawled out of the over-turned vehicle unscathed.)

We arrived in plenty of time because the Church service started at 5:00 p.m. Nicholas was a trouper throughout the whole service. He had fallen asleep just before his big debut took place. Daddy Duane held him while the baptism took place. When he held him by the baptismal font and the pastor started placing the water on his head, I thought for sure he was going to get upset and start crying, for he was still asleep. He awoke, but didn't say much of anything. After the placing of the water, and throughout the rest of the service, Nicholas was alert with bright eyes seeming to check out everything in his surroundings. Being a proud Grandma, I couldn't help but enjoy every moment.

After the service, pictures were taken at the Church. Then, we went to Duane's and Steph's home and enjoyed the chili, fruit tray, etc. and good conversation. More pictures were snapped throughout the evening. When the evening was done, Russ, Corinne and I went home, driving on roads that had improved.

One last note: Great-grandparents Arlene and Werner wanted to attend the event. But because the wind was causing drifting snow, Arlene was concerned that her driveway would be plugged when arriving back home. She didn't want to worry about how she was going to get up the drive if they were to get stuck. With Werner's Parkinson's, she has to be extra concerned about such matters.

Below are some of the snapshots taken. I hope you enjoy the snapshots at least almost as much as I enjoyed the evening.
