Where were you when the I-35W Bridge Collapsed?

The time is shortly after 8 p.m., Wednesday, August 1st, when I make this entry. Mom called me shortly after 7 p.m., wondering how I'm doing. I had gotten done talking to Russ on the phone about 10 - 15 minutes before she called. It wasn't till Mom called that I found out the news that the 35W bridge collapsed. Check out: I-35W Bridge Collapses Into Mississippi River, on WCCO's website.

While talking to Mom, I received a message. I checked it after I'd finished talking to Mom. The message was a text message from Justin. His message was short and to the point: "I'm o.k."

Although I suspected that because he should have been at work at the time, I was still grateful to receive the message. Justin, to my knowledge, should have been the only one remotely close to the incident. All the rest of my family should be fine.

So, thinking back to the type of question that pops up during such a historical event, "Where were you when the 35W bridge collapsed at just after 6 p.m.?" I'd have to respond that I was talking to Russ on the phone. I was oblivious to the fact the event was unfolding. (I had TNT TV station on). Russ, being in Virginia, wouldn't have known this event was unfolding either. Another thing was going on during this. The weather looked slightly threatening. I was hoping we would get some rain. The grass is brown and the crops are suffering. While talking to Mom, they got some rain again tonight, while all we've gotten to this point is a couple drops.

I called Russ and let him know. I thought he might be interested to hear about it. I also didn't want him to hear it on national news and wonder if any of our family was hurt. So, he knows all of us are well. He doesn't, of course, get our local news. So, he'll check it out on the internet soon.
