Corinne
Thought I should mention that Corinne has only 1 physical therapy session left. They told her that they have taught her everything she needs to know to get back to using her knee. Thus, medicare won't pay for any more p.t. after next Monday (last session). She needs to continue to do her exercises at home without any regular sessions. The p.t. guy was so nice. He made sure to let her know that she could call or stop by if she ever has any questions. If possible, be sure to give her a call or stop in and chat. Give her some encouraging words. I know she still has some pain. The p.t. guy had told her to try to get off the pain killers that the doctor prescribed. Thus, she has started using over-the-counter pain meds to try to see if they help.
The last time we went to p.t., I had Corinne use her cane to get to the car and also had her drive. I walked nearby with the walker just in case she needed it. She wants her independence back. Thus, her using the cane is a big part of it. Also, her feeling comfortable driving helps with independence (as we all know). She did fine using the cane to the car from the house. But, p.t. took a bit much out of her. Thus, she used the walker to get back to the car. But, she drove. The big thing about the walker is that it's a bit clumsy to put in and take out of the car. Thus, the cane would be much easier.
Another tidbit of info: If you were wondering, before surgery, Corinne had been getting most of her noon meals at the senior citizen center and since the surgery, she's been getting meals via Meals-on-Wheels. She says the meals are so large she's able to make 2 meals out of them. Thus, breakfast and weekends are the only times she has to prepare her own meals.
