Christmas Time Blues
This past Christmas was a rough one. About the time I thought I was going to get the house sparkling and all the family together, illness hit the household. We had planned our Christmas celebration for December 23rd. Nothing conflicted with that date such that all could attend. That is until Russ came down with the stomach flu Tuesday, Dec. 19th. His illness lasted 3 days. That wouldn't have been so bad, but I became ill Thursday, Dec. 21st. Since Russ had been sick 3 days, I was in for it too. My 3rd day landed on the celebration day.
Phone calls were made and our Christmas celebration day was cancelled. David & Adrienne came anyways. Adrienne had been sick with the stomach flu the week before David's finals' week. (That made her nervous. She was concerned David would come down with it at the worst possible time.) Since David ducked getting sicking when Adrienne came down with it, he thought he could miss it this time. Besides, they didn't know when they'd get another chance to come. -- Plans had been made that they would be spending the following weekend at her side of the family.
They arrived Thursday evening - the day I came down with that nasty illness. Well, David came down with it on that Saturday.
I wasn't feeling very well on Saturday. I was up & about. But, my energy level was still low. So, Adrienne & Russ made the Christmas meal. (The turkey was thawed & had to be cooked - or it would spoil.)
Even though my appetite was fully back, the meal was excellent.
We did the best we could under the circumstances. After Saturday came & went, David & Adrienne went back to Duluth Sunday, Russ & I went to Arlene's & Werner's on Christmas day, and we made plans for the South Dakota Danielsons to come on Saturday, December 30th.
The weather messed with those well laid plans. A snow storm had gone through Denver, Co. and was heading our way. Brad & Brenda would be affected worse than us. They called, changing the plans to come on Friday, Dec. 29th. They would be the only ones to be able to attend. We had a short, although good visit. They headed back that evening and came across some nasty roads near Marshall. If I got my info right, the rest of the trip was quite treacherous. Brenda could hardly keep the car on the road. But, they did make it home safe & sound.
Saturday, Dec. 30th arrived and Duane, Steph, Nicholas, Justin, Arlene, Werner, Corinne, Colette and Alex arrived for that planned Christmas celebration. We got lots of pictures taken (as you can see). Then Anna, Jeremy & Mitchell arrived to have 4th generation pictures taken. All-in-all it was a good day. I missed David and Adrienne and wished they could have been there that day too. But they are doing fine. Thus, I try not to complain. I hope I can plan and succeed with having a good Easter celebration, having My Three Sons and their families all together.
Well, Christmas came & went, I didn't get Christmas cards out (although I may still attempt it) and New Years rolled around. Russ & I went to our good neighbors and rang in the New Year. New Years day arrived and we attended an early evening wedding - Carrie A. married Jonathon T. Hope your Christmas Holiday went smoother than ours.
