Quilting Bee

South West Area Parish group spent a day (Wed., Jan. 31, 2007) making Tummy Time blankets. The SWAP met and socialized with friends and neighbors from St. Matthew's of Evan, Bethany of rural Morgan, St. Lukes of Franklin, Central - between Franklin and Fairfax, Our Savior's of Fairfax and Augustana of Gibbon, MN.

The over 50 completed Tummy Time blankets will be delivered by Public Health employees to mothers and newborns in their homes. The SWAP comes from 3 counties, so completed blankets will be divided between Renville, Redwood and Sibley County Public Health offices.

Dad helped Mom and me haul all our equipment in from the vehicles. Mom and I brought our sewing machines and other supplies. The photo on left, Mom is helping prepare a quilt for Keith G., a St. Lukes member. He is in Iraq and sent a letter back to St. Lukes letting them know what items he would appreciate receiving. Since such a large group was planned to attend, St. Lukes associates chose to bring his quilt there to finish assembly. They wanted to get it out in the mail A.S.A.P.

Left photo: left side towards back, Mom (Arlene), right side, front towards back: Rita D., Marlene N. Right photo, Dad took in an attempt to get at least one photo with me in it.

Below:
Left: Dad (Werner) chats with the pastor of St. Lukes. Rod listens. Rod and his wife are new to the area. They came from Denver, Co. At this point they are not members any specific church, but St. Lukes contacted them and his wife showed appreciation for that. Right: another attempt to get me in at least one photo.

The day really got started with Marlene N. and other leaders explaining what our mission was for the day over brunch.
These ladies kept us at the sewing machines busy. So busy, we sewing machine ladies are meeting on Friday morning to finish sewing what they pinned.

When the day wore on, some ladies needed to leave due to other commitments like jobs or other meetings. After Dad's socializing buddy, Rod and his wife left, Dad kept busy by picking up scraps of thread and material. I was glad to see that he found something to do. When he gets bored, he tends to get antsy and pushes Mom to leave. He didn't do that this day.

When I got home this evening I sure was wore out. I'm sure all went home tired and satisfied just as I did.

(When I get names to match faces, I'll include them.)
