Couple more Things Accomplished

I took my time at getting things done today. I had a short list of things that HAD to be done today, and since I was a bit tired from last weeks events, I took my time.

Corinne wanted my help removing Memorial Day flowers from grave stones in the afternoon. So, I headed to New Ulm in the morning. I needed to get a door key for the Cadillac since the keys were locked in. Our spare keys for this car are missing, so I needed to take the VIN number to a dealership. Armed with the title for the car, I headed on down to Jensen Motors in New Ulm. I'm glad I had the title along. They photo copied it and my driver's license (I'm sure for security purposes). And then the proceeded to look up the information they needed and made the key. Thank God they can do those sorts of things. I'm sure I had different avenues of getting the car unlocked, but this seemed to be the safest.

After getting the spare key, I proceeded to Target. I had wanted a few items, but they didn't have what I wanted. So, the stop at Target was more of a browsing stop. Next I headed to Sleepy Eye. I had been wanting a filter for the drinking water line for quite some time. The new well water has (had) a funny taste to it due to the high hardness. Because of our plumbing situation (size of the pipes) I opted to go to ACE Hardware. I had stopped at Walmart a previous time for the filter. But, Walmart didn't have all the plumbing supplies I would need. I'd have to stop someplace like ACE Hardware to get those items anyways. So, I opted to get everything from ACE. Besides the parts I needed, I knew I'd be able to get help from them. And that's exactly what happened. A guy answered my questions and helped me get all the things I needed.

After my final stop at the grocery store in Sleepy Eye, I headed for home. But, I called Corinne while on the way, and stopped there before getting home. She and I headed to the Fort Ridgely and Dale cemetary just down the road south of Central Lutheran Church and removed flowers from her parents' grave stones and flowers from her Aunt Inez's stone. Then we headed to Zion Lutheran Cemetary just to the west and slightly north of our place. There, we removed the flowers from Lloyd's stone.

Corinne greatly appreciated my help. The day she put the flowers out onto the gravestones, she had wanted my help. I had had previous committments. Thus wasn't able to help her. She got pretty worn out, walking across the uneven grounds, getting the task done. So, when I was able to do the walking for her, she appreciated it much. She waited in the car for me when I walked over to the gravesites and removed the flowers, then walked back. Her legs didn't get wore out at all this time!

After helping Corinne, I headed home. I knew I wanted to get the filter installed. But wasn't driven to get it done. So, I relaxed for a couple hours, then started the task. Plumbing makes me nerveous, because I get concerned that I won't have all the supplies or the task would prove to be too difficult. Since the filter was to be installed before all of the appliances (water heater, softner, etc.) if things went wrong, I'd be without water until I could get help.

Fortunately, the ACE person did get me all the supplies I needed AND the job wasn't too difficult. So, now we have a whole house water filter installed. It truly does make a difference in the flavor of the drinking water. For now, I plan to filter it in our Britta water pitcher. I'm curious to find out if the Britta filters last longer than a week now. Before having the Whole House Filter, I'd filter the drinking water through the Britta filter and that filter plugged up in no time at all. The instructions for that filter said it should last a month. We were lucky if it lasted a week.

Other notes: Ronny has been working on the sprayer for the farm. He's getting real close to done. He was working on it last night. Thank God for that. He had a channel-lock plier that I needed to use. While I made my trek across the lawn to get it, Doobie was extra excited in the machine shed.

Upon investigation, I found that she had a racoon cornered under a pile of stuff in the shed. Fortunately, she wasn't able to get completely at it. The coon hissed and made contact with her a couple times. I'm not sure she could have gone into full battle with it even though the coon seemed to be about half grown. I know that I've seen larger coons in the past. But, I didn't want to find out how much damage a half grown coon could do. Eventually, Doobie gave up on pestering the varment.
